Homes damaged in the 2024 Kumamoto earthquake can now apply for a disaster certificate from Friday, July 31. This certificate is needed to get help like emergency home repairs. You can apply at the Tanoura branch office first floor or the main office first floor lobby.

Disaster certificate applications for the 2024 Kumamoto earthquake are as follows.

Who can get a disaster certificate
Homes (buildings used for living when the disaster happened). It does not matter if you own or rent the home.

1. A photo ID for yourself (My Number card, driver's license, etc.)
2. If you are sending someone else, a power of attorney (not needed if it is someone in your same household)

This proves how much damage your home has. You need it to get help like emergency home repairs and public support. Usually we will inspect your home after you apply, and then give you the certificate. If we only look at the photos you bring and do not visit your home, the result will be "partial damage (not serious enough for half-destroyed)".
When we inspect your home, we will tell you when you can get the certificate.
If you do not agree with the first inspection result, you can ask for a second inspection.

Following the earthquake on 28 July 2026, the town is accepting damage and disaster certificates, opening water supply points, accepting disaster waste, offering free access to public hot springs, helping with blue sheet installation, and recruiting volunteers. Building safety inspections are underway mainly in the Tanoura district. People are also warned about heatstroke, deep vein thrombosis, theft and fraud.

About heatstroke prevention
Heat is continuing and more people get heatstroke. Drink water and salt often. Wear a hat for outside work. Work with 2 or more people if you can. Rest in a cool place every 30 minutes.
About deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
If you sit in a car or shelter for a long time without walking, blood clots and you may get DVT. To prevent it, drink water often. Do light exercise and stretch. Do not drink or smoke. Wear loose clothes. Exercise your legs and massage your calves. When you rest, put your feet up a little.
About starting roof blue sheet installation
The earthquake has caused many water pipe leaks. We are looking for leaks. Surveyors may check your water meter and may enter your land.
